The truth will set you free

John 8:32 says, “Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” God wants His people to live in truth and speak the truth. I believe that we should never let people think that sin is ok. The bible never says that sin is ok. Romans 6:23, says “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” If we don’t tell people the truth in love then we don’t actually love them.

Psalm 119:43 says, “Never take your word of truth from my mouth, for I have put my hope in your laws.” We are to lead people to Heaven, not hell. Some may not see it that way because sometimes the truth isn’t what they want to hear. The truth is not a popular subject. Compromise is NOT part of the truth. When you compromise, nobody wins and nobody gets what they are asking for or want. It is really a lose, lose. Co-existing is NOT part of the truth. God can NOT co-exist with sin. You either have God or you don’t. God is not a part of your sin, He’s apart from your sin. God wants us free from sin. That’s why He gave us the Holy Spirit.

Proverbs 23:23 says, “Buy the truth and do not sell it -wisdom, instruction, and insight as well.”  Sometimes the truth sounds harsh or intolerant. But, the truth is the truth. The truth hurts sometimes. It is always better to find out the truth sooner than later. All we can do is tell others and hopefully they will listen. It’s their choice. John 14:6 says, “Jesus answered, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except though me.”

It’s a new year, face your fears

In 2015, I really started facing my fears. I have always had such a fear of loud noises and speaking in public. Last year, I learned to shoot a gun. That was awesome! I also gave my first public speech in December. I really feel like we need to prove ourselves to God. He is always proving Himself to us. We need to trust that He will get us through, even if we don’t know how He’s going to do it.

I remember thinking as I was walking up to the podium, “God, I have no idea how this is going to work. I guess I will find out.” I didn’t know if I could get the words out. Well, I did and it was a pretty good speech. I was nervous and sweaty, but I did it! God proved to me that He was in control, even when I didn’t know how it was going to happen. I went to a new level of faith that day.

Here’s what I found when I did my research on ‘fear’ for this blog.

1 Samuel 12:24 says, “Be sure to fear the Lord and serve Him faithfully with all your heart; consider what great things He has done for you.” The only fear we should have is the fear of God. That is different than being fearful. Psalm 19:9 says, ” The fear of the Lord is pure, enduring forever. The ordinances of the Lord are sure and altogether righteous.” Psalm 25:14 then tells us, “The Lord confides in those who fear Him; he makes His covenant know to them.” I believe that’s why the church is doing things that are against what the bible teaches. The church doesn’t fear God. We need the fear of God, not the fear of man! Psalm 27:1 says, “The Lord is my light and my salvation-whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life-of whom shall I be afraid?”

Fear (as in to be afraid) is defined as an unpleasant emotion caused by being aware of danger.

Fear of God is defined as a feeling of respect and wonder for something very powerful. (Reverence)

These are two very different definitions of the same word. We are not to be afraid of what’s happening on earth today because God is in control. When we an wrap our brains around the fact that God is God, the we will be able to show reverence to God and be able to fear God in the correct way. Yes, He gives and takes away, but He has only the best thoughts and plans for us. God is love, so we need to stop making Him out to be up in heaven seeking out who should die next. That’s what the devil is doing, not God. Get it right!

The only way to get past your fears is to face them. It might look impossible to you, but God will get you through, if you ask Him. That’s just how He is. He loves us even when we don’t love Him back. He doesn’t divorce us or walk out on us. He is always there and keeps pursuing us. He never gives up on us. He gives us chance after chance. How many times have we done that for someone else?  Trust God. He won’t ever let you down.

Take captive every thought

There is a reason that the Bible tells us to take captive every thought to the obedience of Christ in 2 Corinthians 10:2. Just because something feels good, doesn’t mean that you should do it. I remember that saying ‘if it feels good, do it’. Not true! You better examine if what you feel like doing is spiritually sound. If it’s not, you better not do it. God gives us the manual for a reason. Some things only feel good for a short time and then it’s bondage.

Romans 6:23 says, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Just because a lightning strike doesn’t kill you instantly when you sin, doesn’t mean you escaped death. None of us are going to escape death. Is the life you are living really worth trading for a moment of feelings? I want to make the most of the time I have left in this life. God has a plan for all of us. I don’t want to waste my life going by my feelings and emotions to make bad decision after bad decision. That’s my choice. You have a choice too. Your choices determine your destiny.
