It’s a new year, it’s time to forgive

Forgiveness is defined as the act of forgiving; the act of ending anger at. To forgive is not just a thought, it’s an action. You must physically forgive others, not just mentally replay the actions of how they hurt you or offended you or mistreated you. God will judge them, it’s our place to forgive them and let it go. Matthew 6:12 says, “Forgive us our debts, as we have also forgiven our debtors.” Everybody sins and falls short of the glory of God, we have all hurt others and need their forgiveness just like we need to forgive others for hurting us in the same way. Have we been any better than the people that we refuse to forgive. Be honest…

Jesus tells us later in Matthew 6:15, “But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.” This doesn’t mean to let people keep hurting or abusing us, but it does mean to let go of the hurt and anger in your heart so that God can heal you and set you free. Sometime only God can help us to forgive. Some hurts are so deep and have been there for so long that you wouldn’t even know how to start letting them go. The only was to move ahead and be happy is to forgive.

If you need to ask God to help you, then ask Him. He can’t help unless you ask. The devil forces himself on you and lies to you, but God is a gentleman and will only intervene when asked. You are free to choose. Do you choose to forgive? Deuteronomy 30:19 says, “This day I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live.” Choose life, choose forgiveness, choose happiness and move forward this year!
