2 Timothy 1:7 (NLT) says, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.” To overcome your fears you must face them. Giving in to your fears will make the stronger in your life and soon your fears will consume you and paralyze you.
Fear is a spirit, that’s what God’s word says. So, it can be cast out. In order to cast it out, you must face it. With me it was public speaking. I did not realize how much that fear had paralyzed me. I physically couldn’t speak in front of a group. Nothing would come out. Over the years, it kept getting worse and worse. What started out as taking a zero on an oral report turned into a stronghold that was stopping me from speaking the word of God. I had to face it. It was very hard, but God brought me through.
Merriam-Webster defines fear as: an unpleasant emotion caused by being aware of danger; a feeling of being afraid.
God gives us power (the Holy Spirit) which means we have the ability or right to control people or things. That power gives us the right to control that spirit of fear. God gives us love, which is an assurance of affection. God also gives us self–discipline which is the ability to make yourself do things that should be done. That’s awesome! We must face the things that are controlling us so that we can fulfill the plan and purpose that God has for our lives.
