Love is why

This week we will be celebrating Valentine’s Day – February 14th, 2019. This is the day of love. I thought I would write my weekly blog about love since it is the subject everybody is thinking about this week. I have been noticing these little signs that say ‘Love is Why’ in peoples yards around Chattanooga and wondered who was behind this movement. I finally found this link and wanted to share it for this season of “love”. Please watch and find out what this is all about. https://www.loveiswhy.org/

What is love? 1 John 4:8 “But anyone who does not love does not know God, for God is love.” This verse of the Bible tells us that God is love. So, love is God. It’s pretty simple. We don’t have love if we don’t have God. He is the measure and the definition of love. You might have feelings or lust, but you don’t have love without God. This is how the enemy steals our lives. He distorts love and convinces us to believe a lie. The enemy puts a twist on scripture so that it sounds nice and appealing to our sinful natures. The truth can hurt sometimes, but the truth will set you free. A lie will leave you in bondage and kill you.

How do we describe love? 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 “Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance. The description of love is what every single person on this earth wants, but hardly ever gives. Are we really patient with others? Do we demand to get our own way most of the time, instead of thinking of the other person? Do we hold grudges and never forgive others when they hurt us? Truthfully, we hurt others all the time and expect them to forgive us, without any apology on our part. But, we expect everybody to treat us like kings and queens all the time. We all need to remember that we are surrounded by humans, not perfect beings. Humans make mistakes and we are to be quick to forgive and not hold on to hurts. That’s how we love others.

Why do we show love? 1 John 4:19 “We love each other because he loved us first.” God loved us and had mercy on us, so we must love others and show mercy on them. We’re not really Christians if we don’t. John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. ”  God loved us so much that he sent His son to die for our sins. Jesus loved us so much that He died for our sins. That is true love! Do we have that kind of love for others? We are also supposed to love our enemies! You can’t love your enemies if you don’t have the love of Christ in our hearts. It’s easy to love the ones that love you, but to love the unlovable, is a whole different story! Romans 5:8 “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. “

How do we show love? Mark 12:30-31 “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’There is no commandment greater than these.”  First, we must love God and put Him before ourselves. That is the key. We can’t love others if we keep ourselves front and center. Selfishness is a sin. We then should put others before ourselves. Jesus was a servant. He never thought of His comfort or His wants. He always thought of us first. Things start changing when you start putting God, and others, first. You show love when the focus is not all on you and your pleasure and happiness, but making someone else happy for a change. John 13:34 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. Just to be clear, Jesus wants us to know that love is a command, not a feeling.

Love is why! Love is everything.
