Depression: State of Mind
You are what you…DO
Daily Devotional for Depression ~Day 7~
Christians should pray and read the Bible. God speaks though His word. We can’t know God’s truth if we don’t open up His word. The only way we will break any chains is through prayer and knowing God’s word.
The word Christian means disciple. Being a disciple means we should be doing the works of Jesus, being ‘Christ-like’. Sharing the good news to the poor. However, when you are depressed, you are poor. Poor in spirit. I am sharing the good news that Jesus can and will make you whole!
Christians also need to stop compromising with sin. We need to grow in the fruits of the spirit – Galatians 5:22-23, which are LOVE, JOY, PEACE, PATIENCE, KINDNESS, GOODNESS, FAITHFULNESS, GENTLENESS, and SELF CONTROL.
As Christians, we must walk in love. In John 15:17 NLT, Jesus says, “This is my command, love each other.” It’s not a suggestion, it’s a command.
We also need to walk in forgiveness. Luke 6:37 says, “Do not judge, and you will not be judged, do not condemn, and you will not be condemned, forgive and you will be forgiven.”
I created this devotional so others will see that there is hope and freedom from depression. God expects us to help each other; to lift each other up instead of cutting each other down. I’m here to tell you that you are an overcomer and your test will become your testimony!
In Ezekiel 33:6 NIV, the word says, “But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet to warn the people, and the sword comes and takes the life of one of them, the man will be taken away because of his sin; but I will hold the watchman accountable for his blood.” We are the watchmen! We are responsible for the blood of others. That means we must love others enough to tell them the truth. 2 Timothy 2:25 says, “Those who oppose him he must gently instruct, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth.”
It’s our choice how we think, what we believe and hope, what kind of vision we have for our lives and what we do with our lives. Deuteronomy 30:19 says, “This day I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live.”
What are you doing?
