Depression: State of Mind

You are what you…HOPE

Daily Devotional for Depression ~Day 4~

The word HOPE has been made so insignificant in our vocabulary. We have made it more like wishing. “Well, I hope it works out” or “I’m hoping and praying it will be ok”.

The definition of HOPE on merriam-webster.com is: to cherish a desire with anticipation; to trust. So, in other words, to hope is to trust.

Ecclesiastes 9:4

There is no worse feeling than hopelessness. I lived in hopelessness for so long. It makes you numb. Ecclesiastes 9:4 NIV says, “Anyone who is among the living has hope -even a live dog is better than a dead lion.” When I read Ecclesiastes when I was going through my depression, it made me laugh. A depressed person knows another depressed person wrote this book. For some reason, God used this book of the Bible to show me that even King Solomon struggled with depression. I’m not alone and there is hope. Romans 5:5 NLT says, “Hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured His love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom He has given us.”

Romans 5:5

Don’t give up hope. Hope is activating your anticipation of something better. You might not know how or when it will get better, but it will get better. The only way your life will get better is to have hope that it will. When you give up hope, then all hope is gone.

What do you hope?
