Depression: State of Mind

You are what you…Speak

Daily Devotional for Depression ~Day 6~

Sometimes it’s very hard to speak positively when things are chaotic all around you. I have a big problem in this area. I find myself spewing ‘word vomit’ and cursing my life and my family. It is very important to speak positively and declare what thus saith the Lord, not what thus saith your situation.  James 3:10 tells us, “Out of the same mouth comes blessing and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be.”

James 3:10

We won’t have freedom in our lives if we keep speaking negatively or ‘cursing’ ourselves. “I’m fat” or “I’m ugly” or “I can’t do it.” The devil doesn’t have to worry about us getting free when we can’t even control our own tongue. Proverbs 18:21 (NIV) says, “The tongue has the power of life and death and those who love it will eat its fruit.”

Proverbs 18:21

Even non-Christians know that things change when we speak positively. It’s a universal law, I think. It’s the unofficial law of positive speaking. There are many examples of peoples lives being changed by the power of their words. https://www.forbes.com/sites/peterhimmelman/2018/10/21/the-power-of-positive-speech-how-choosing-the-right-words-defines-your-reality/#360ab42f6ea5

I feel good, I feel great, I feel wonderful!

Mary Kay Ash, the founder of Mary Kay Inc cosmetics has helped many women with her positive speaking. She is one of the founding mothers of makeup and her company became one of the top companies in the world. That’s pretty impressive! http://www.marykaytribute.com/HerLife.aspx “… her mother encouraged her by saying, “You can do it, Mary Kay. You can do it.” As an adult, Mary Kay would pass this spirit on through a remarkable company that would inspire millions of women for generations to come.” This is the kind of power that speaking the right things over our lives can have.

What are you speaking?

Depression: State of Mind

You are what you…See

Daily Devotional for Depression ~Day 5~

According to Webster’s dictionary, when we SEE something we: have experience of; we come to know; we visualize; we understand; we are aware of; we recognize and imagine as a possibility. Proverbs 29:18 says, “Where there is no vision the people perish; but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.” When we have no vision for our lives, we’re like zombies wondering around aimlessly with no direction. We’re only existing, but not living.

We need to see our lives in a positive light. Satan takes so much from us. We need to stop letting him steal our vision and our time. We need to keep our eyes on God. Job 7:7 says, “Remember, O’ God, that my life is but a breath; my eyes will never see happiness again.” Even though Job went through so much heartache, he never cursed God like his wife wanted him to. God ended up giving him back everything he lost, with interest. Everybody has bad days and good days. If your focus is only on the bad, then you will never be able to see the good.

What do you see?
