Pray for your leaders

Today is President’s Day. It was first established in 1885 as a celebration of our founding father and first President, George Washington’s, birthday 02/22/17. It is celebrated on the third Monday in February because of the 1968 Uniform Monday Holiday Act that went into effect in 1971, which gave workers several long weekends per year.

1 Timothy 2:2 tells us “Pay this way for kings and all who are in authority, so that we can live peacefully and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity.” We are called to pray for our leaders. If we don’t pray for the leaders of our county, then we could lose our Christian freedoms. We must pray that all darkness be brought to light in the highest places of authority. While we are still on this earth, it is our duty as Christians to step up and demand our rights be protected.

Jeremiah 29:7 says “And work for the peace and prosperity of the city where I sent you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, for it’s welfare will determine your welfare.” The welfare of our country depends on God hearing and answering our prayers for our leaders and our country. We are very close to being persecuted for our faith. Christians have compromised with darkness so we wouldn’t be labeled ‘intolerant’, ‘hate filled’ or ‘old fashioned’. We have let the enemy gain too much ground and now we must fight to get it back.

The darkness has crept in quietly and started to take over our land, one ‘right’ at a time. We can’t lay down and let the enemy take over and shut us up. The enemy always tries to stop the truth from being spoken. Acts 4:17-18 (paraphrased) tells us that the leaders (the members of the council) agreed they needed to shut Peter and John up and stop them from speaking in Jesus’ name. That is what’s happening now. There is truly nothing new under the sun. They tried stopping them then and they are trying to stop us now. Why is the name of Jesus so offensive anyway? Isn’t it just a name? Philippians 2:9 says “Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor and gave him the name above all names.” The enemy HATES the name of Jesus! That’s why he tries to censor it.

2 Chronicles 7:14 says “Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land.” God promises to restore our land if we pray. Jesus also tells the Sadducees in Matthew 22:29 that “Your mistake is that you don’t know the Scriptures, and you don’t know the power of God.” I believe that my God, the one and only living God, is healing our land and restoring His people. He alone has the power to fix the mess this country is in now. Let’s not forget to pray for our leaders so we will not have to live in tyranny as other Christians do around the world.
