Should Christian’s participate in Halloween? This has been a question I have been wondering for a long time. I know that Christians are not worshiping the devil when we celebrate this holiday, right? Could we be deceived about this demonic holiday? This is only a day for scary movies, haunted houses, dressing up, carving faces in pumpkins, giving out treats or getting tricked and having fun with our friends. The Word of God tells us to abstain from every appearance of evil (1 Thessalonians 5:22), that might mean ghosts and goblins, witches and warlocks, etc. We are to focus and dwell on things that are good and pure and lovely, not dead things (Philippians 4:8).
As Christians, we know that this is a day that the Lord has made and we should all rejoice and be glad in it, so, we try to put a Godly twist on it (Psalm 118:24). But, in all honesty, is doing the same things the witches and other devil worshipers do, actually change the “bad” part of it? Everything that we are doing on Halloween is part of evil rituals to Satan that has been done for centuries all over the world. Could this actually be a way the devil is sneaking in and causing us to open ancient doors that we, as Christians, should never open? John 15:18-19 tells us that we are in this world, but should not be a part of it because God has called us out. Could we be allowing Satan to take our children and our families just by participating in Halloween?
This might seem silly and nobody wants to be known as a ‘radical’ Christian. Nobody wants to take the fun away from their children. Other kids get to celebrate this ‘holiday’ that focuses on ‘children’ and ‘candy’. That’s innocent enough, right? Why can’t Christian children celebrate too?
I just wonder if we might be handing our children over to Satan and his tormenting spirits by joining in on this holiday that the world celebrates (Mark 7:9) These tormenting spirits cause depression, anxiety, fear, suicidal thoughts, anger, unforgiveness, bitterness, etc…etc. Is this what we want for our children? This subject has been on my mind this entire month and I have prayed about it. Why are signs, miracles, and wonders not following Christians (John 14:12)? Why is the Church so powerless? We can’t even help ourselves, much less others. Maybe this has something to do with compromising with the world. I’m not sure. What do you think?
I’ve been looking at the youth of today and I see, as a whole, a whiny, self-involved, narcissistic, fragile, lazy, worldly generation. We, as Christians, have failed our youth. They are not capable of taking care of themselves or functioning in this society. They scream tolerance and logic but act intolerant and ignorant. We have allowed teachers and professors to indoctrinate them instead of training up our children in the way they should go (Proverbs 22:6), which is to the foot of the cross. Have we given in to the mindset of ‘there’s no harm in letting them have a little fun’ in exchange for their souls? (Matthew 7:21-23) In Matthew, it tells us that even though we think we are living right and doing right, we might actually be out of God’s will, and don’t really know Him. We need to either be hot or cold for Him, not lukewarm (Revelation 3:15-16). When we are lukewarm, we don’t really know the Lord, we just think we do.
